For drivers who don’t want to follow everybody else, the Mitsubishi Galant offers enjoyable driving and comfortable interior space for four adults, with unique styling.
This family sedan represents good value for the budget-minded person and does not directly compete with other sedans like the Accord or Camry. Early models of the Galant have unimpressive power plants and transmission, with medium to poor interior finishes.
The other main alternative to the Honda and Toyota marques was the Nissan Altima, which featured a powerful V6 and impressive interior space. Mitsubishi then needed to take the Galant and completely re-design it to make it competitive. The updated 2006 Galant now offers a performance competitive 160-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder, coupled with a four-speed automatic, and range topping 230-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 with manual shifter.
The Galant’s exterior profile is striking with bodylines that mirror competitor sedans but are striking in their own right. The Galant’s interior has a cascading center console with large control knobs and high mounted in-dash screen. The overall build quality and finish of the interior cannot match that of its main competitors but the design is distinctive in its own right.
Drivers will first notice the soft and roomy seating, while in the rear tall adults will feel comfortable. Out on the road the Galant is fun to drive with the V6 providing ample torque and flat stance on the road, with quick responsive steering and lots of road feel. These agile manners do not interfere with the Galant’s smooth ride.
The Galant suits drivers looking for smart exterior design, good manners on the road and smooth ride, at an affordable price.
