The S2000 may not be the most refined sports car on the market, but it's got the power and handling of a more expensive car. Because of its no-frills nature, this car lacks some of the interior touches that make sports cars special- and worth extra money to their buyers. An antiskid system is the main addition in 2006 to this sports car.
The engine has a peak of 9,000 rpm. Only from 7,000rpm onwards does the acceleration really begin to swell. This is the highest revving production engine you can buy; a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre unit that generates an astonishing 237bhp without the aid of a turbocharger. This is truly Honda at its best.
In the hands of experienced drivers, the combination of an aggressive rear suspension and a peppy electric steering system will keep you on your toes. Thanks to the new throttle and the VSA stability system, the car has greater stability. VSA is designed to help the driver keep control during cornering, acceleration and sudden maneuvers.
Those of you who have driven the S2000 before will notice that the electric power steering is slightly slower, giving a more intuitive feel. The chassis is also more rigid than before. You might also note that the ABS system is more intuitive, so that it deals better with situations where levels of surface grip differ between the wheels.
Six-footers will barely fit into the car’s cockpit, which offers minimal storage space. Although the S2000 is terrific on a sports-car road, the BMW Z3 or Mazda Miata offers better day-to-day livability.
