The Honda Integra Type-R has come to symbolize the screaming performance of Honda’s VTEC valve technology. It is a very quick and wonderful handling car.
The new Integra comes with a refined 2-litre, i-VTEC engine, which combines VTEC's variable valve lift with continuously variable intake cam timing. The latter not only assists performance but also cuts emissions. The engine pumps out 217bhp at 8000rpm, and 152lb ft of torque at 7000rpm. This is ideally matched to the new six-speed gearbox.
Honda also made some improvements in the bodyshell's structural rigidity. One of the biggest changes is improved rear grip. The variable-assistance rack and pinion steering is precise, and makes the car easy to handle. There is less understeer than in the earlier models. The car is fitted with larger, 17in wheels. Combined with the superior chassis balance and stiffness, the car provides better handling than ever. On the interior, the Type R has Recaro racing seats, Momo wheel, and polished aluminum pedals.
The new Integra has improved body and crash rigidity. However, it is 72kg heavier than previous models. But the increased power combined with the superior balance and tractability is enough to negate the weight gain. On the style front, the Integra boasts a sharp new look. This is mainly due to the sleek headlight and grille combo, the bright red Brembo calipers and larger 17inch wheels.
Overall, the R is faster, better looking and better handling than most cars in its category. It is sure to guarantee you maximum driving thrills.
