The 2006 Honda Pilot is a 4-door, 8-passenger sport-utility vehicle. The new model has some styling changes and enhancements to some of the interior features. Also, a new front-wheel-drive model has been added to the range.
The Pilot is available in 10 trims, ranging from the LX 2WD 5-Speed AT, to the EX 4WD 5-Speed AT. The LX 2WD 5-Speed AT is equipped with a standard 3.5-liter, V6, 244-horsepower engine. A 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims. The power gets to the ground through either the front wheels, or via an advanced, full-time four-wheel-drive system. The Pilot delivers impressive fuel economy, particularly in two-wheel-drive form. The Pilot's automatic transmission shifts smoothly, even under hard acceleration. Honda's Grade Logic Control system monitors throttle position, speed and acceleration to avoid hunting between gears.
This car has a fairly huge cockpit, with more storage capacity than anything in its class. There is seating for eight people; and a last-row bench seat that disappears into the floor. The LX model's manual seat adjustments are simple but effective. A driver's foot rest, or dead pedal, comes on all models. The driver benefits from excellent visibility in all directions with as little obstruction to sight lines as you'll find in an SUV. All controls are easily accessible by the driver.
The Pilot is equipped with some great safety features as well. The suspension behaves exceptionally well under hard braking and hard acceleration. Because of so many features, it will surely be very popular. As a Honda, it promises quality, durability and reliability.
