The CR-X is a small sports car that’s fast, full of features, reliable and practical. It is an affordable sports coupe which is fun to drive. You would probably feel that the CRX is nothing more than a Civic with a smarter body, but once you get it out on the open road, you will absolutely love this car.
All the engines are quite powerful, but try and buy a VTEC version. It packs a punch of around 5,000 rpm, and driving it under heavy acceleration is quite addictive. The gearbox is a delight, far better than most modern-day transmissions. The steering too is sharp and precise, allowing you to handle it with ease and place the car exactly where you want. The 0-60mph dash takes just 8.2seconds, and the top speed is 121mph.
Initially Honda offered the CR-X only with a manually removable roof panel. The electric roof option was introduced on VTi models in 1993, and makes for a great car-park trick. Removing the roof manually can be awkward as it is quite large and heavy. Check its seals for leaks. The interior has space for two people, and all the motors of the electronic roof take up luggage space. As a result, boot size is seriously limited.
The CR-X comes with a choice of two 1.6 liter engines, one giving 125bhp; the other, in the VTi model gives 158bhp. The engine gives a fuel economy of 32 mpg. The car’s reasonable purchase price, sharp handling and strong engine make it a good investment.
