The Toyota Ipsum is a seven-seater MPV. It is sold as Ipsum in Japan, while in other markets it is called as the Toyota Picnic. It has all the features that you would expect from a thoroughbred family car.
The entry-level 2.0 GS features electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, electric tinted windows, high level stop light, twin airbags, and side impact beams. It is also available in a 2.2 liter turbo diesel version. Both the engines are quite powerful, and ideally suited to the car. The Ipsum 2.0 can reach 60mph in 11 seconds. The engine is a DOHC 16 valve, with VVT-I technology.
The car has an adaptable seating layout. However, load space is restricted when all the passenger seats are in use. The rear row of seats is removable, but the center row is not. Even though the Ipsum is a minivan, its behavior is very car-like. It has a low center of gravity, which means that it handles really well. Also, its small size means that you will have less of a problem when trying to park it.
The car also does well on the safety front. Driver and passenger airbags are standard. All the rear seats are equipped with three-point seatbelts. In Euro NCAP crash testing, the Ipsum scored four stars. Fuel economy for the petrol model is 31mpg, rising to 36mpg for the diesel version. The Ipsum is available in both 2WD and 4WD driving types. The 2WD version costs $26,800, while the 4WD costs $29,500.
