The first generation Toyota Caldina is a 5-door wagon and commercial van. It is a modified version in Japan of the 4-door sedan Toyota Corona. The second generation is based on the Toyota Aventis. The Caldina has the double overhead cam engine (DOHC). The automatic, four speed transmission makes it an easy-to-handle car.
Toyota put the fourth generation of the 3S-GTE engine into the top of the range Caldina, along with four wheel drive (4WD), rather than continuing to put it into their sports car, the Celica, as they did since 1986. The 3S-GTE engine is an in-line four-cylinder engine that utilizes a turbocharger.
The third generation Caldina was introduced in late 2002. It is a pure sports wagon. The engine for the Caldina is either 1.8 liter, 2.0 liter, or 2.0 liter turbo 3S-GTE. All models have automatic transmission.
The Caldina has never been exported by Toyota outside of Japan, but its 4WD capability and large capacity have made it popular in some areas of South America. The 2005 Toyota Caldina is a sports car. With an engine displacement of 1,770 cc, it is one of the best cars in its category. The powerful four cylinder engine provides a power of 127HP @ 4200 RPM.
The Caldina comes with an audio system with radio and CD player, air conditioning, and power steering. Both front and rear windows have power window facility. Like most Toyota cars, safety is not an issue, since there are 9 airbags for the driver and front passenger.
