The Toyota Aygo (pronounced Eye-go) is a great little car. It has a solid engine, stylish looks, and low running costs. Available at a price of £6,730, it is just about the perfect city car.
The Aygo’s 67bhp engine is much more powerful than you might expect it to be. However, you have an option of buying a 67bhp, three cylinder 1.0 petrol engine, or a 54bhp 1.4 diesel engine. The five speed manual transmission is the default choice. Toyota provides an option of getting a semi-automatic gearbox with full auto program.
Performance wise, the Aygo is pretty tidy. Although the sprint from 0-60mph takes fourteen seconds, you will find that the car is excellent in terms of fuel economy.
The combined economy figure is 61.4mpg and emissions are pegged at an impressive 109g/km. Toyota claims that the 1.0 liter engine is the world’s lightest production engine. The engine takes about 600 miles to ‘run in’, and is very responsive after that.
The front and rear overhangs have been made short, in order to make parking easy. The design of the ventilation controls on the console is very appealing. The cylindrical heater panel glows at night, giving the interior a fantastic look. Every model has a CD player with MP3. However, you might want to invest in a better pair of speakers.
The interior space is just about enough for four people. As expected of a city car, the boot is also small. Overall, the Aygo is a worthwhile investment of your money.
