The new Nissan Primera is longer, taller and wider than its predecessor. Nissan also provides the base 1.6 liter petrol engine model loads of features - at an affordable price. In addition, the company has designed eye-catching bodies and matched them up with stylish and innovative interiors, to create one of the sector leaders. The cars is also pleasant to drive and well-specified; even base models get climate control.
The base car is still called the SX grade, but the new SVE version has a host of extra features. The Nissan reversing camera system allows the driver to see the rear of the car on a clear centre console screen, once you engage the reverse gear. It's a very effective system and has now been upgraded to use a small color TV screen. The SVE also comes with a Global Positioning System (GPS) as standard. The other differences between it and the SX version are that you get alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and a rain sensing wiper system as part of the SVE package.
The 2.2 dCi engine is the best of the engines that power the Primera. It is smooth and has ample power. Some of the models come with six-speed gearboxes. The car is also available with 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter engines. Nissan has controlled the Primera performance to achieve a good fuel economy of 39mpg.
On the inside, comfort is adequate. It's a roomy car, and the unusual dash layout makes for useful storage ideas. Seats split and fold for extra load area.
