The 2006 Nissan Sentra is a 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan, or sports sedan, available in 4 trims, ranging from the 1.8 to the SE-R Spec V. This car is one of the best choices for college students to use because of its practicability.
The car comes in economy-oriented 1.8 and 1.8 S models, and in sporty SE-R and SE-R Spec V forms. The 1.8 versions have a 126-hp, 1.8-liter 4-cyl engine and a 5-speed manual transmission (or optional 4-speed automatic). SE-Rs have a 165-hp, 2.5-liter 4-cyl and automatic transmission. The SE-R Spec V has a 175-hp, 2.5 and mandatory 6-speed manual. This model comes with a six-speed manual transmission with overdrive. SE-R and Spec V come with 4-wheel disc brakes instead of rear drums. ABS packaged with front side airbags is optional for all models but the base 1.8. Satellite radio is also available for all but the 1.8. The Spec V offers specific exterior and interior trim, along with sport seats.
The car gives a mileage of 23mpg in the city and 29mpg on the highway. Handling wise, the 1.8 models have modest cornering grip but quick, responsive steering. SE-R has strong grip and agile handling. Spec V's standard limited-slip differential reduces torque steer, but doesn't erase it completely. This means that there may be unwanted pulling to one side during brisk acceleration.
Prices range from $14,750 for a base model, to $21,215 for a top-of-the-line Sentra. The Sentra received four stars in frontal crash-impact testing. For safety, the car has emergency trunk release and front seatbelt pretensioners.
