The 2007 Versa is a mixture of Japanese technology, French design and Mexican manufacturing, trimmed and tuned for American markets. The four-door, five-passenger hatchback looks and feels more substantial than its rivals, which include the 2007 Honda Fit and the 2007 Toyota Yaris. Prices for this car will start around $12,000.
Powering the Versa is an all-aluminum, 1.8-liter DOHC engine that was especially designed for the car. It generates 122 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard. A four-speed automatic (optional only on S models) and a continuously variable transmission (only for SL models) are also available. This particular CVT is the latest generation, with technology and programming to improve responsiveness and operation in all driving conditions. On the road, the Versa is quiet and comfortable. Fuel economy with the CVT is 7.9 L/100 km in city, and 6.1 L/100 km on highway.
The base 1.8 S features intermittent windshield wipers, tilt steering column, a satellite-radio, four-speaker audio system with CD player, and power heated outside rearview mirrors. Anti-lock brakes can be selected for an additional cost, but front discs and rear drums are standard on all trim levels. The 1.8 SL Technology features a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, Rockford Fosgate audio system with six-CD changer and six speakers, among other luxuries. The body style offers lots of cargo room. The backs of the split folding rear seats fold flat, but still take up some room.
Overall, the Versa is an acceptably comfortable cruiser. For its price, it offers a lot of equipment and high-quality dynamics.
