The Gloria was a full size car sold by Prince from 1961 and later by Nissan. It began as a luxury model of the Prince Skyline, but was merged with the Nissan Cedric in 1971. The Nissan Gloria was a sporty version of the Cedric. Its styling was pretty identical, except for a few cosmetic changes. However, the Gloria was better equipped than the Cedric.
The initial models of the Gloria had a larger 1.9 L engine and more luxury features. The GB-30 straight-4 produced 80 hp. Later, Prince introduced the S40 Gloria. It was the first 6-cylinder Prince, offering an updated straight-4, the 94 hp, 1.9 L G-2, or a straight-6 variant known as S41 Gloria 6. This new engine, called the G-7, produced 106 hp. The Gloria had an independent suspension in front.
Comfort, convenience, function and ergonomics are the priorities of a car's interior, and the Gloria fares well on these counts. Legroom is quite decent in front, but a little less in the rear. Wide rear doors make entering relatively easy. The front seats are firm but not uncomfortable.
The Gloria is quite an attractive car. The styling taste might appear to be curious to buyers, but it represents the designs that were used at the time. The design never intended to appeal to buyers in the U.S.; this is probably the reason that the Gloria was mainly sold in Japan.
