The Nissan Cube is a mini MPV produced by Nissan and sold in the Japanese market. Like its name suggests, the Cube is very square-like in its shape. With its boxy styling, the Nissan Cube is quite unique. This styling actually came out in Japan nearly two years ago. It was designed to provide the maximum amount of interior room in a relatively small package.
Despite its unusual shape, the Cube has some very interesting styling features. It uses asymmetrical c-pillars from side to side. And the sideways opening rear door also has an asymmetrical design. On the inside, it is equipped with comfortable, well-upholstered seats that have wide arm rests. In a slightly longer version of the car, called the Cubic, there are actually three rows of seats. The Cubic also has a slightly different front grille.
The Cube is available in two specifications. The base car offers front-wheel drive and an 88bhp petrol engine, while the high-end model has four-wheel drive. However, with the Cube only weighing a little over 2100 pounds, it’s not as slow as it sounds. Until 2004, the car was powered by a 1.4 liter engine coupled to a CVT transmission. In 2005, both models were upgraded with the new HR-series 1.5 L engine. They are now available with the new "e4WD" system, which transfers power to the rear wheels when the front wheels spin.
Nissan is currently planning to release the Cube in the American market. It would probably be released there in 2007.
