The Nissan Frontier is a leading midsize pick-up with its robust chassis, powerful drive train and value-added features.
The Frontier takes a lot of styling from the bigger Nissan Titan and shares a significant number of features including the factory sprayed bedliner, bed channel tie-down, fully boxed, all-steel frame that makes it tough on the off-road.
The suspension is also shared, including the double wishbone front suspension and rear leaf springs. Available in crew Cab and King Cab format, the interiors are identical – except for the rear-hinged doors and larger rear seating in the King Cab, which coincidentally eats up the rear bed space.
Two power plants are available for the frontier, including a standard 154 horsepower 2.5-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine, paired with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Other models can be partnered with the 265-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 with either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission.
Safety features include supplemental front-seat side-impact airbags and available supplemental curtain airbags for side-impact and rollover protection for front and rear outboard passengers.
The top of the range gets value-added features include a leather upholstery package, power front seats, in-dash six-CD audio system, keyless entry, cruise control and power windows, locks and mirrors.
The Frontier is a tough looking vehicle with a huge amount of horsepower under the bonnet and more than adequate off-road ability. There’s lots of low-end torque, which pulls off as soon as you press the accelerator, while the ride is a bit jerky the steering remains tight and communicative for a truck. Advanced control systems assist the off-road models capable performers on the rough.
