The Ford Five Hundred is a big, roomy sedan. The car is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the latter giving it more stable handling and better traction, particularly in inclement weather.
The Five Hundred is equipped with a V6 engine that delivers responsive performance and good fuel economy. On front-wheel-drive models, the V6 is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive models come with a continuously variable transmission. All are powered by a 3.0-liter V6 called the Duratec 30, rated at 203 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque.
The sedan is available in one of three trims: SE, SEL and Limited. The SE ($22,230) comes with 17-inch wheels, a six-way power driver seat, full power accessories, air conditioning, a CD player and cruise control. The SEL adds a dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an in-dash CD changer and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With the Limited, you'll get 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated seats and an analog clock. Optional features include a moonroof, adjustable pedals, a navigation system, and a reverse-sensing system.
Safety features include an optional package for the SE with side-impact airbags, and canopy airbags (for head protection). Anti lock brakes are standard on all models.
The Five Hundred has a spacious cabin. There is more rear leg-room than front leg-room. The rear seats fold forward to provide more luggage space and the front passenger's seat (on SEL and Limited models) folds down to provide extra space. The switchgear is well designed and easy to use. Overall, the Ford Five Hundred is an impressive vehicle.
