The Dodge Daytona was produced from 1984 to 1993. Dodge produced three separate vehicles with the name, Dodge Charger Daytona, all of which were modified Dodge Chargers. The Dodge Charger was reintroduced for 2006 in the form of a limited production Dodge Charger Daytona R/T. This includes a sportier interior, classic exterior colors, a rear spoiler, and rear quarter panel striping with "DAYTONA" letters.
The 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T was first shown at the Chicago Auto Show. It produces blistering performance for a car of these dimensions - a four-door sedan. It will race from 0-60mph in about five seconds, and has a top speed of 135 mph. The Daytona’s real use is acceleration from 40mph-plus up to the limit, courtesy of its 350hp and 390 pounds-per-foot of torque.
The car’s displacement system in tandem with the hemi configuration allows it to lose a full four cylinders at cruising speed. This allows it to return fuel consumption figures of 17mpg (city), and 25mpg (freeway). Its ride quality is suitably firm. This is due to its performance package suspension, widened 18-inch rims and Nivomat self-leveling shock absorbers.
The interior is also fairly spectacular, with bucket seats and leather. Dodge has released its Daytona in three colors: orange, yellow and red. All colors complement the racer styling. To provide a retro touch, the Daytona R/T features black "Hemi" decals on the hood and rear fender. It is priced at US$32,495 and 10,000 will be produced for the 2006 model year only.
