The Dodge Avenger comes in three different forms: The Dodge Avenger coupe (1995-2000), the Dodge Avenger Concept Car, and the Dodge Avenger (JS) sedan, which will be released in January 2007.
The 2000 model of the Avenger gained a number of standard features that had previously been optional, including power windows and locks. Base models added cruise control, 4-wheel disc brakes, and 16-inch wheels. ES coupes now came with standard leather upholstery and keyless remote entry. Chrysler dropped the Avenger name after the 2000 model year, replacing it with a new Stratus coupe.
The Avenger is powered by a 2.0-liter, 140-hp DOHC inline-four, or the quicker 2.5-liter, 163-hp V-6. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The V6 is smooth and more powerful, but it doesn't produce much torque at low speeds. Each model handles adeptly, zipping around corners and through curves with good grip.
The interior is fairly up market, with leather seats, shiny wood-grain plastic, and an optional Infinity stereo. The climate control system is easy to use. The side demisters are very effective, and work quickly. Front bucket seats offer plenty of head and leg space for two adults. Rear leg room is quite abundant, and the front seats slide forward to clear a path into the back seat. Instruments are easy to read, though auxiliary gauges are small. Most controls are easy to reach while driving.
On the whole, the more you drive this car, the more you will like it. It can easily reach illegal speeds, so watch out.
