The Chevrolet Camaro, part of an American tradition of pony cars which includes the Ford Mustang and Pontiac Firebird, offers enormous value for your money. The return of the Camaro has been anticipated eagerly since fourth generation production ended in 2002. In January 2006, the first official word regarding a fifth generation Camaro from General Motors came at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, where the 2006 Camaro Concept was released.
The fourth generation Camaro Z28 featured GM's all-new 5.7 L LS1, which had been introduced with the Corvette C5 in 1997. This engine was rated at 305hp, although it actually produced about 350hp. It took five seconds to drag the car from 0 to 60mph.
The Camaro remained almost completely unchanged from 1998 to 2002. The 2006 Chevrolet Camaro Concept recaptures the spirit of one of the most popular sport coupes of all time. It combines dramatic design and exciting performance. The long hood, short deck and wide stance of the Camaro Concept contribute to its sleek looks. Those looks are backed up by a 400hp, aluminum small-bock V-8, a six-speed manual transmission, and a sophisticated chassis with four-wheel independent suspension. The 6.0-liter LS2 engine features an Active Fuel Management, which shuts off four cylinders to save fuel when the engine is lightly loaded. It could deliver more than 30 mpg at highway speeds.
The Camaro Concept’s aggressive acceleration and efficient highway cruising make it an eagerly awaited car. It will probably go on sale in early 2009.
