When Chevrolet came out with the new Malibu in 2004 it was received hesitantly by the industry. Chevrolet has been looking for a way to get back into the midsize sedan game, and the Malibu was its first real try in many years.
Chevrolet believes that they will be able to sell the Malibu because it offers a high level of standard equipment, for a price that is well below its competition. This car comes in several different trims.
First off, you will have your choice of either a four cylinder engine that produces 145 horsepower, or a six cylinder that produces 200 horsepower. Both of these engines are new offerings by Chevrolet, and have made a lot of noise. They are more powerful and offer better fuel efficiency than previous engines.
The Malibu comes in five different models: Base, LS, LT, LS Maxx, and LT Maxx. Even in the base model, buyers get a lot of features including power amenities, a CD player, and a power seat. If you step up to the LS you get the larger engine, as well as many other features such as cruise control and traction control. The LT offers automatic climate control, fog lights, and leather upholstery among other features.
The Maxx model is a hatchback version that has a six inch longer wheelbase than the sedan. This offers more passenger and cargo space than the sedan. The Maxx is an excellent offering because it is something that is not available from its competitors. This has helped to boost overall sales, and move the Malibu near the top of the class.
Even though the Chevrolet Malibu has not yet caught up with the foreign competition, it is definitely closing the gap. As the model develops more over the next couple of years, the Malibu will surely begin to sell even better.
